Career & Leadership Coaching

Let’s work together.

I’ve seen it within myself, among friends, and the many individuals I’ve coached over the years: You’re motivated, work hard, but yet somehow have found yourself off course by following the path you were “supposed” to take.

Rather than continuing to strive to reach a level of success other people have identified for you, you’re ready to take a courageous step out of your comfort zone and into work that intentionally honors your true values and strengths. Work where you can bring the whole you everyday. Work where you feel inspired — and you in turn inspire others.

I coach emerging leaders like yourself who are eager to find more fulfillment, connection, and engagement in their careers. In doing so, my clients often gain more clarity, focus, and energy. They improve their relationships and reduce their stress levels. And perhaps most importantly, they leverage their strengths to maximize their potential and create positive change.

The best way to know if coaching is right for you is to give it a try with a free sample session. This 30-minute session will allow you to experience coaching for yourself and determine if we’re a good fit. Although the sample session is shorter in length of time and more condensed than my regular coaching sessions, this will be true coaching through and through. I can answer any questions you may have about the coaching process and you can decide if my coaching style suits you. I look forward to working with you!

I’m here to help you:

career exploration

There are times in all of our lives when we question our next career steps. But how do you figure out what's next, when the only thing you know is that you don't want to keep doing what you've been doing?

As your coach, I'll help you clarify how your values, interests, personality, and skills influence how you like to work. Together we'll create a strategy to help you reflect on these items and begin to uncover a career that provides meaning and satisfaction. From there, you'll begin to identify and test various career possibilities. You'll walk away with clarity about where you'd like to go next in your career path.

career transition

When it comes to job searching, it's easy to get stuck in a rut when we go at it alone. We may fall into routines that don't actually serve us, or start listening to our inner critic to avoid stepping out of our comfort zone. That's where career coaching comes in.

As your coach, I'll provide an objective perspective to help you not only stand out as a job candidate, but also create a sustainable strategy that gets you energized and moving forward. You'll learn how to take confident action steps and overcome obstacles to get your job search on track.

leadership coaching

You’re a mover and a shaker looking to reach new heights in your career. But careers today aren’t linear – and without a clear-cut path to success, it’s easy to feel lost. What skills and knowledge do you need to move forward? How can you improve your leadership skills? How can you experience more productivity, or even fun, at work?

As your coach, I’m here to help you uncover answers to questions like these. Anything from getting and giving feedback, to leading effective meetings, to speaking up at work is fair game for our coaching sessions. Through our coaching conversations, we’ll uncover what it is that you’re hoping to achieve, what’s holding you back, and action steps you can take to move forward. You’ll leave each session with practical homework and tools to help you thrive in your career.

I wanted to make a change in role, and Katherine helped me to hone in on transferrable skills, not get pigeon-holed, and get from A to B.

Q. What will we cover in a sample session?

A. When you schedule your sample session, you will also be prompted to answer a few questions about yourself. It’s expected that you bring a topic to be coached on to our session, so these questions can quickly help you surface one. Your answers will also help me to learn more about you ahead of time so that I can better coach you and we can maximize our time together.

During the sample session, we’ll spend about 5 minutes establishing context, 20 minutes on actual coaching, and 5 minutes for questions and next steps.

After our call, I'll share my detailed notes from the sample coaching session. This means you get to focus on our conversation in the moment and come back to what we discussed in an organized way at any point in time. After the call, you can also add your own notes about your progress on homework to this shared Google doc to make sure you stay on track.

Q. Will you do document (resume, cover letter, LinkedIn, website) reviews?

A. Yes! Once we decide to work together, I will send you a link to a shared Google folder where you can upload your documents. I will review them virtually and send you a video with my feedback. This way, we don't have to use our time during the coaching session going over your docs.

Q. I’m not ready to sign up. What else can I do?

A. Keep in mind that any time is a great time to start coaching. The sample session is free, and all about you so you have nothing to lose!

Other things you can do in the meantime: Take a look through my free resources and blogs. A lot of my blogs are focused on quick, actionable steps you can take to improve your performance and step up as a leader at work.

Q. Are we a good fit?

A. I love working with motivated, ambitious people who are seeking to make an impact in a variety of industries. I’ve worked with individuals in tech, education, finance, healthcare, government, etc.

Over the years I’ve held roles as a career coach and lecturer at universities including Stanford, UNC Chapel Hill, and The College of William & Mary. Most recently I served as Senior Manager of Growth and Development at a tech company in the heart of Silicon Valley.

If there’s one thing I’ve learned over the course of my own winding career, it’s this: aligning my work to my values rather than what others said I “should” do has never led me astray. In fact, it’s led me to meaningful work where I’ve been able to be more of myself — making me a stronger colleague and leader. This is why my mission is to cultivate courageous careers and cultures. To do so, I empower emerging leaders and intentional organizations to foster more fulfillment, connection, and engagement at work. My clients describe me as insightful, creative, motivating, and fun.

Fun things about me: I love reading, practicing yoga, and spending time with my friends and family. My first major in college was interior design and while I didn’t pursue it as a career, I still love to decorate! I consider myself a lifelong learner and would probably stay in school forever if I could. At any given moment you’ll probably find me enrolled in a class of some kind.

Happy Clients

“I moved into a management role after considering leaving my company because I didn't see growth opportunities. That was a big step and working with Katherine helped me identify what I wanted and what I had to offer. We continued to work together once I started in my new role. Talking through different challenges regarding managing a team and communicating with other executives at the company gave me more confidence in my own perspective and ideas. I'm now much more likely to communicate more openly and advocate for my perspective.”

“I wanted to make a change in role, and Katherine helped me to hone in on transferrable skills, not get pigeon-holed, and get from A to B. She had a way of forcing me to answer my own questions (held the mirror up) and helped me to feel confident from within.”

“I was making a career change, leaving my full-time job to finish grad school. I was nervous about how I would maintain momentum without the artificial structure imposed by work. With Katherine's help, I listed my many identities that I felt were in competition: writer, artist, student, teacher, coach, business owner. She helped me see that my top values were creating and connecting, and that I could do those things in any number of ways. For the first time in my life, I prioritized my creative time, writing and drawing for the first hour of every day, and it felt amazing. One year later, I have graduated, completed a book of my art that came out of my daily drawing practice, and have plans to speak at an international conference about my book. Realizing that I crave structure, I landed a full-time job that will allow me to incorporate my education and interests. Katherine is an enthusiastic advocate who is not afraid to hold you accountable when you need a reminder of your priorities. She allowed me to find my own way by asking the right questions. I highly recommend her to those who are facing a transition, a new challenge, or those who just need a nudge to get out of their own way!”

“Working with Katherine has helped unlock my creativity and increase my engagement at work. I previously had some big blocks that prevented me from growing in my career and working with Katherine has given me a more holistic perspective of what’s possible and helped me uncover where my interest and energy is. I’ve gotten a lot out of our consistent and hyper-relevant discussions and am grateful to be working with Katherine.”

“Katherine was awesome. I often just need help getting a plan to paper and commitment on executing the plan and Katherine did that and more. Katherine did a great job helping me define what I needed to do for my job search plan, defining what exactly success looks like, and putting timelines around the plan.”

“Katherine is a pleasure to work with and an excellent coach! I didn’t know how to express my job experiences in a way that sold myself. Katherine helped me achieve the confidence to give my resume to any hiring manager. I’m looking forward to working with her again to further my professional development.”
